becuase the installer for the game is 16-bit, it won't run on anything past XP, BUT - if you replace the setup exe's with 32-bit versions of the file, setup will run sucessfully, and install the game. SC2K will also run on win 7,8,10 圆4, but there is a catch to it. I got my copy of SC2k Special edition years, and years ago, so it''s on CD not the floppy disks that SC2k originally came on (although i have those too). ADDED NOTE: looks like the GOG version of SC2k is excatly the same as EA/Origin. Just be aware if you DO get SC2k Special edtition from EA/Origin, you will only be given the DOS version, and it will not provided a way to access the SCURK tool, nor will it provide you with the extra themes and cities. also the default starting date of SC2k starts out in the past.

the thing that made the special edition version "special" was it came with Windows, DOS, and Mac versions of the game, as well as the SCURK tool (Sim City Urban Renewal Kit) as well as tons of themes for your city.
